At Ambulatory Foot & Ankle Clinic, we strive to help patients struggling with medical foot issues that hinder one’s quality of life and cause pain. Contrary to popular belief, we do not immediately recommend surgery unless absolutely necessary. In many cases, we will start with non-surgical treatment options to see what is effective. Part of the issue is that many patients do not seek treatment for foot issues until the pain is unbearable.
Along with that, many people will assume painkillers and rest are all one needs. Since painkillers only mask the pain, they do not provide actual treatment for the source of the pain. We can examine the patient and determine the source before customizing treatment to the individual patient’s needs. We will also help the patient to continue any stretches or exercises at home that can help to promote recovery.
Dr. Karson Howard, DPM was born here in Pocatello on a summer’s night. He grew up just outside of town with random chores like feeding the cows and mowing the lawn. Growing up was a fun time filled with many Saturdays at Pebble Creek in the winter and many summer days out on the lake. He took classical guitar lessons from 9th-12th grade, and still continues to love playing music.
In 2000, Karson graduated as the first class of Century High School. He then left that summer for Honduras to serve as a missionary for the LDS church. When he returned, he began his undergraduate training at ISU. There his wife fell in love with him, watching his crazy good racquetball skills. So he decided to fall in love with her as well. After only a few months of being married they moved together to California where he attended the California School of Podiatric Medicine for four years.
After he graduated, Dr. Howard moved to Chicago, IL for his surgical residency at Mt Sinai Medical Center, a level I trauma center. He now has been practicing with his father since 2011 and joined with his brother in law Adam Matthews, DPM in 2012. He enjoys his time at home with his small young family. Karson currently serves as Vice President for the Idaho Podiatric Medical Association. Dr. Karson Howard is Board Certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle surgery.
