Types of Regenerative Foot Care from a Podiatrist
The use of cells, tissues, or organs to repair the body is referred to as regenerative medicine. Instead of just masking pain, regenerative foot care, which involves injecting a substance into a painful region, can improve the foot or ankle problem. The therapies have been shown to be effective alternatives to steroids and surgery. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and stem cell treatments are examples of regenerative therapies that can be used to address the damage and underlying problems.
Regenerative foot care
A podiatrist can provide different forms of regenerative foot care, including:
Allografts of amniotic membrane
Regenerative medicine offers amniotic membrane and stem cell allografts as a treatment option. Podiatrists often use AmnioFix, a human cell transplant, to do this. Multiple extracellular matrix proteins, growth factors, cytokines, and other specialized proteins are preserved and contained in this bioactive tissue matrix transplant. Some of the conditions that can be treated include inflammation, scar tissue, tendon injuries, and plantar fasciitis.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections stimulate the repair of injured tissue by using platelets from the patient’s blood. PRP injections are successful because they stimulate the stem cells in the location where they are used. PRP encourages the stem cells in the injection site to work harder to repair damaged tissues.
Ankle sprains and minor injuries can benefit from PRP treatment. The technique aids in the healing of injured tissues and the tightening of loose ligaments caused by the sprain. Plantar fasciitis can be effectively treated with PRP.
Stem cell therapy
Stem cell therapy is the preferred treatment choice if the damage is severe or if the ligaments are torn. Injured tissues, such as plantar fascia tissue, can be repaired and replaced using stem cells taken from the patient’s blood, bone marrow, or body fat. Stem cell treatments may be utilized for a variety of diseases and are the treatment of choice for injuries, arthritis, and other conditions that are more serious than what PRP therapy typically treats. For optimum recovery, the doctor may combine stem cell therapy with platelet-rich plasma therapy, depending on the nature of the foot injury.
Extracorporeal pulse activation technology (EPAT), often called shockwave treatment, is a pain-relieving non-invasive technique. Pressure waves are used to stimulate metabolism, enhance circulation, and accelerate healing. The podiatrist applies gel to the afflicted region and gently uses the stimulation.
More than 80 percent of EPAT patients become pain-free or have considerably less discomfort after three sessions, with treatment times lasting between 5-10 minutes. Ailments that can be treated with this technology include heel and foot pain, Achilles tendon pain, and tendon injuries.
Laser therapy using the multiwave locked system (MLS) is a painless and non-invasive procedure that employs photons of laser light for tissue penetration and speeds up cellular healing and recovery. The podiatrist’s class IV MLS laser utilizes light that has an anti-inflammatory and anti-edema impact on tissues. During this therapy, the doctor will employ specific light wavelengths. Consequently, cells in tendons, ligaments, and muscles heal themselves more quickly.
Treatments last an average of eight minutes, and most patients see a remarkable difference after the third session. This technology can help with plantar fasciitis, bursitis, arthritis, Achilles tendonitis, and sports injuries.
